We will leave drive on Highway 50 to Placerville and then along a winding road to Coloma and Marshall Gold Discovery State Park.  We want to arrive no later than 10:00 a.m. and plan to leave by 11:30 for our drive to lunch.

This is the site of Sutter’s Mill where gold was discovered in California.  We will view a movie about the discovery of gold, walk through the museum, and tour the park grounds to see the Chinese influence, the Mill, and other remnants of this once thriving town.

Then, we will drive an even windier road to Kelsey where a member couple will provide lunch at their secluded home.  After lunch, it will again be your choice as to how to fill the afternoon.  You can stick around and play Bocce Ball, or try your hand at Bean Bag Toss.   Some may want to visit the Goldbug mine where you can actually go down into a hardrock mine.  Others may want to wander through Placerville (another historic gold mining town) with interesting shops, antique stores and restaurants.  Some may want to visit Apple Hill with its interesting orchards, craft stores, fruit stores, and wineries.  If you like wine, El Dorado County has numerous wineries and tasting rooms to visit.

Please make your reservation before September 9th so we can prepare the correct amount of food!
