Kelsey Maher - Culinary Diplomacy

Believe it or not, every time you eat a meal you are engaging in the act of culinary diplomacy. Culinary diplomacy is the use of food to connect people from different backgrounds together. Have you considered the origins of tomatoes or the salsa you make with your tomatoes? Or have you been inspired to visit the places that originated your favorite dishes? In our discussion of culinary diplomacy, we'll discuss the three pillars of culinary diplomacy and how you practice it in your daily life.

Bio: Kelsey Maher is a culinary educator and program manager. Originally from the rural South, she grew up in a community that produced and exchanged seasonal vegetables and fruits with each other. While living abroad in Central Asia and the Caucasus, Kelsey learned different methods of cooking familiar produce. This inspired her to study culinary diplomacy in graduate school at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. Kelsey co-hosted "The Culinary Citizen," a podcast about culinary diplomacy, for two years, has taught culinary classes to children and adults, and sits on the board of Slow Food California. This summer you will either find her trying out a new pickling recipe or foraging on the California coast.

Please register early so we can send you instructions on how to join the Zoom meeting.  If you have any questions before then, contact Chris Smith at webmaster@ffsacramento.org or call 1-916-712-6979.

This Zoom event is limited to 100 people using Zoom.
